On the chilly evening of March 25th, 2023 the long-standing Forest Hall in Milford, Pennsylvania opened to the public to welcome the new art exhibit Andy in Nature. Andy in Nature is a rare look into the Life of Andy Warhol, a titan of art and advertising. Andy Warhol was born August 6th, 1928, and true to Leo fashion Mr. Warhol was well known for his bright connections and creations with brands that every American can remember growing up: Campbell’s Soup, Macintosh, Coca-Cola, Paramount, Mobilgas, and Chanel just to name a few. The titan also crafted projects with star-studded household names such as Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Ronald Reagan, and Calvin Klein. The photographs of Andrew Warhola (later Andy Warhol) were taken by fellow photographers and friends of Andy, Christopher Makos and Paul Solberg. These rare and intimate shots in black-and-white showed a different side of the artist through years of travels both international and domestic. Several pictures featured Mr. Warhol and his shock of silver hair in outrageous locations such as The Great Wall of China in Beijing, a Chinese bird market, on top of a snow-capped mountain in Aspen, and a lake in Paris. Interestingly enough although a whimsical, colorful, bright, and boundary-pushing artist— Andy did not showcase those qualities in the photos, in no more than two photos did we catch a smile! This lack of excitement in photos simply shows Andy’s comfort zone was to be behind the camera, behind the art, and in the moment.
During the grand opening of Andy in Nature, Commissioners Matt Osterberg and Ron Schmalzle stated with exuberance, “This exhibit is a great addition to the town of Milford. Normally to see rare artistic shots such as these you would have to go to New York City, Philadelphia, or Pittsburg. Bringing such unique art into town for our citizens increases the quality of life and awareness of how important creativity is to our residents.”
The Andy in Nature Exhibit will be open to the public every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, March 25th - July 30th, 2023. Tickets can be found on www.eventbrite.com.
