Road Trip to Harrisburg

Last week I took a road trip out to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to see the band that my close friend Samantha suggested I come tage along and see. I drove ~120 miles to the band @nothingnowhere play with @oxymorrons and @hazingover! When I tell you all that I havent been in to a real concert in awhile, I am not kidding! Although EDM festivals and pool parties in Arizona have taken a huge chunk of my attention I definitely cannot pretend that my first love is not Rock -- Screamo and Post-Hardcore to be exact.

This concert came as such a suprise because I did not expect The Harrisburg Midtown Arts Center to be such a massive venue! From the outside the Arts Center looks like a really nice colonial-style building with a gorgeous three-eyed doe watching over the picnic tables and lights strug up to add an ambient glow to the outside relaxation area. Walking inside you are greeted by security taking tickets and executing a pat down on everyone who walked in.

To be quite honest, usually seeing concert-goers be pat down might make me a little frustrated for a smaller venue but in today's day and age where gun violence is everywhere (especially in the most unexpected places), you can never be too safe. The HMAC the opens up into a beautiful, in-your-face, kaleidoscope of colours and local art. The walls are lined with vibrant colurs of orange, blue, green, and white; large colourful couches in pops of teal, orange and red decorate the room and is so cozy, inviting, and interesting to look at! If you spent an afternoon at the HMAC you would leave having enjoyed the view of over 100 pieces of local Pennsylvania art.

I came to see Nothing Nowhere but when it came down to the chunk or meat of the concert @OXYMORRONS BLEW ME OUT OF THE WATER!! You have never heard a band like this before... Rocking out to The Oxymorrons explosive and interactive set reminded me of old days back on The Vans Warped Tour where you could feel the connection, love for music, and artistry the moment you walked through the door.

The Oxymorrons are a Melanated Punk band from New York City and every alternative / scene / goth / punk rockers day dream. Listening to the guitarist shred and the rythm of the drums pound through my veins I was reminded that music belongs to all and the chill that encompases us all during a great band set cannot be contained, captured, controlled, or distrubed by any one race, ethnicity, or gender.

This band definitely made it to my "Must Listen" List.

Thanks, Harrisburg!

Brews, bands, and Penn State alumni all in one room!
